The Thieving Gypsy Bastards
Everyone, it seems, has fond memories of this momentous cartoon. Time
and again someone posts a thread on a forum about the amount of thievery
and destruction perpetrated by the occupants of their local
encampment, and it isn't long before someone replies "Do you remember
the Thieving Gypsy Bastards in Viz? It was ace it was really funny it
was just like them they should have done more etc. etc. etc." and
someone else takes the piss out of the idiotic political-correctness
bollocks about them being made to apologise for it being "racist".
Racist my arse, racism is attacking a group of people defined by skin
colour or some such genetic characteristic. Taking the piss out of a
group of people defined by their criminal behaviour is not racist,
it's funny.
These forum threads always result in mass googling for a scan of the
cartoon to post, followed by mass disappointment that there isn't one
to be found anywhere on the internet. Always seems surprising that
such a well-remembered classic has so successfully eluded distribution.
Well, you know what they say, if you want a job done properly the
thing is to do it yourself...
It's not as funny as I remember it being when it was originally
published...
