These things... as in the image on the right. They do not fucking work.
There are fucking loads of twats selling these pieces of useless crap. Some of them are purple and green, some of them are black, some of them have a slightly different shape moulding, but functionally they are all the fucking same: they don't.
The reason? They are fake. They DO NOT CONTAIN A PROTOCOL CONVERTER. Therefore they are inherently completely fucking useless. They can't possibly ever work. They are a fucking scam, and the cunts who sell them ought to be done for fraud except they're all Chinese so there's bugger all anyone can do to them.
I bought one of these because I needed a replacement keyboard quickly and I was unable to readily find one that had a PS/2 interface, so I hoped that one of these would enable me to plug a USB keyboard into my PS/2 socket; that's what it fucking says it's for, right? In fact, I bought several of them, because the hope wasn't very strong, and I wanted some extra ones to take apart in case it wasn't fulfilled.
And indeed it wasn't. I could physically connect the USB keyboard to the PS/2 socket, but sod all happens. The computer does not report that a keyboard has been connected, the lights on the keyboard don't do anything, and you can't type anything with it.
So I took the thing apart: a simple matter of cutting off the purple moulding and then picking some rubbery gunk out of what was inside. Simple, because there FUCKING ISN'T ANYTHING inside. There is no protocol converter chip nor any indication that there should be one but it's somehow gone missing. There is nothing but four little bits of wire which connect the pins of the USB socket to four of the pins of the PS/2 one.
What the fuck is the POINT?
You CANNOT convert between USB and PS/2 merely by wiring the appropriate connectors together. The two standards are completely electrically different and totally incompatible. It doesn't matter what combination of pins you connect, it won't ever fucking work. You HAVE to use a protocol converter - a microcontroller that speaks USB on one side and PS/2 on the other, and translates between the two.
These fucking useless pieces of shit do not have a protocol converter. Consequently, they are fucking useless pieces of shit.
(Of course I left a scathing review, but sodding Amazon refused to post it because "it does not meet community guidelines". WELL WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN? I had carefully avoided using any rude words in it so I haven't got a sodding clue what the stupid cunts are moaning about. Fuck's sake Amazon, don't just say it "does not meet the guidelines", FUCKING TELL ME WHY NOT. QUOTE the bit that doesn't meet the fucking guidelines. Otherwise how the cunting shite am I supposed to know what unimaginable objection some bunch of prissy Americans with fuck knows how many sticks up their arses about fuck knows how many weird things have managed to invent.)
